Laurence Dawkins-Hall (BSc MRSB FIScT(Reg) CBiol CSci) Bio

I have 30 years’ experience, as a practicing bench scientist, of molecular biology, biochemistry, drug discovery and genomics, in cardiovascular, cancer research and infectious disease settings. I have 40 publications in peer reviewed journals, posters, book chapters and conference abstracts and have presented, by poster and orally, academic work at national and international meetings, as well as Industrial symposia. I am a Review Editor for “Frontiers”. Alongside my research, I have lectured and trained undergraduate and post graduate students and contributed to HE course materials.

I am an elected member of the Royal Society of Biology (MRSB) & a Fellow (FIScT) and ‘Registered Practitioner’ with the Institute of Science and Technology (IST). I am a Chartered Biologist (CBiol.) and Chartered Scientist (CSci.)

I am a Registrant Assessor & Applicant Support Mentor (ASM) for the Science Council: I run workshops on Professional registration, in person and by zoom for the Science Council and IST. In addition, I offer personal mentoring and general advice, in person, via blogs or recorded online materials, on registration and have represented both the IST and Science Council at various events. Consequently, I have been made Assistant Registrar (for Professional Registration) at the IST, acknowledging, and formalising registration-based activities, in addition to extending my remit into administration-based activities, pertinent to registration, going forward.
Apart from standard academic workshops, I have also provided Professional Registration webinars and materials on the wider Technician Commitment for various scientific and industrial outlets, including Easy fairs, Lab Innovations, MI TALENT and ASPIH.

I am now Specialist Advisor (SA) for the National Technician Development Centre (NTDC) pertaining to Professional Registration and STEM, complementing the above.

In the first instance, I became professionally registered and decided to promote this scheme because it accredits technicians, which hitherto had been absent from the workplace.
