Staff developers and OD specialists from Scottish HE met in the MPDG RGU-presentation13Stirling Management Centre on June 23/24 for their annual conference. The theme was development in changing times – development at both organisational and individual levels.

The conference opened with a networking dinner on the Thursday evening which gave the opportunity for far-flung colleagues to get together and discuss – all over a wonderful dinner.

The main event on the Friday kicked off with a keynote from Allan Freed, RBL Group, exploring the future of the profession and provoking thought and discussion on how to get there. This was followed by Oliver Johnston, Penna, with a session on ‘Inspiring People in Tough Times.’ He took us through an effective practical methodology to use back at the workplace – peppered with interesting activities, including new ways with balloons!

After lunch a world café session helped share experiences and good practices within the group and gave us fresh insights into what was happening across our sector. The final afternoon session gave us time for reflection on our own professional development – something we rarely have time to do – the cobbler’s bairns problem! So we all completed our self reflection on our professional behaviours and are now inspired to work towards new ways in the future.

The event was captured by a film crew and will be available to delegates online so they can refer to the materials and the discussions back in their workplace.

A stimulating and informative event held in the beautiful campus of the University of Stirling. Our thanks go to the SDF for their grant which made this event possible.

We are now looking for organisers for next year’s conference. If you are interested please contact Melanie Armstrong.
